Not sure what’s going on. The old app was decent if a little feature-poor. This is just a hot mess. From a UX perspective, you can’t get much worse. Were they trying to save money by killing the old app and sticking in this mess of a web view? Someone needs to be fired over there. Bring back the old app!
Really you might as well just let me bookmark your web page in my browser. Heres an Easter egg: tap on the ParkPlus logo in the top left to see how this is just a website.
I have never come across an app this bad in AppStore. Its almost unusable. The previous version, despite the old iOS6 UI, the UX was a bit better….at least I was able to start and stop a parking not session without too much problem. In this version, I had to kill the app a couple times just to find out if I have started my parking session. Nothing wrong with wrapping the app around a website if it was done properly. Some steps (eg. Tapping on the P logo) would take you out of the app and makes this app unusable. The only way to get back into it was to restart the app. Very disappointed with CPA, and also very surpsied that Apple approved this app for AppStore!
There should be no "add funds". I should be able to add a credit card to my profile and pay from that automatically every time. The app should work no differently than a pay station. With the ease of remembering your plates, account information and credit card on file. Fix this ASAP please. Otherwise broken.
$1 to use the app? Thats silliness. Plus, every step results in a server error.
The great minds behind park plus capitalized on the available technology and infrastructure. Unfortunately the progress has been quite underwhelming, mainly as a result of the Calgary Parking Authorities choice of app developer. An in house solution appears to be ineffective. May the app reviews be an indication that an external and experienced developer is needed to build a robust and well designed app from the ground up. A suggestion for the first interview question might be: What was your favorite session from WWDC 2015, and were there any sessions that could directly benefit building our app? Good luck on your next build. Edit: looks like they still have the same team on bored. So I have written them an email. Here is the open letter: Parking App: (First terrible decision) Front page is based on a website insert. This is lazy and a terrible user experience. You can scroll above and below the content revealing a blank space (terrible) The Calgary Parking logo is not optimized for retina displays (aka every iPhone this app supports) You can click the logo which takes you to the main website with no method to return. (All falls back to the first terrible decision. There is a "note: your park plus account…" info drop down under the login page. In here you are given phone numbers and emails to contact support but (as a result of the first terrible decision) you are unable to click the numbers or emails as the expandable paragraph simply collapses rather than being prompted to call - or opening up my mail program to compose an email. Remember username vs auto sign-in. Just make the buttons the same size. Login button - the pop over (which i will touch on again shortly) floods the screens with a big red banner which uses green text. You are not writing a novelty letter to Santa Claus so use fonts that those who perhaps have limited vision or are perhaps colour blind wont have troubles viewing. Create an account - this takes us over to a new website which is not optimized for mobile. From here there are no options to return the previous page. But before that - you are met with nothing other than A POP UP. The popup will go away on its own - but only after 60 seconds. 60!? Why the popup in the first place takes us back to the first terrible decision. Had this actually been a properly built app - if you were unable to build a new account creation page, you could just opt for the use of a build in browser (Safari View Controller). It would offer: forward and back buttons, a done button to return to the app, the ability to auto complete the form, and the ability to populate saved passwords if needed. When done signing up you are still trapped on a website with no access to the rest of the app. To resolve this - you are assuming users are aware of how to force quit an application. This task is designed to be used only when an app is no longer responding or when the phone has insufficient memory. But as a large number of Calgary drivers may not be aware of this - their only solution would be to restart there phone. Think about that - you have inconvenienced your user so much that they have to power off their phone and wait while it turns back on. All of which is a result of the first terrible decision. Forgot password and username are of course pop ups again. But at least when you fill the forms out you should be able to close the popup and return to the main page so you can now login with your newly retrieved info - oh wait, you cant. For some foolish reason you are redirected to a different website (again not mobile ready) with no method of returning to the previous screen. So those unaware users are faced with the need to restart their phones again. This all stems back to the first terrible decision. The privacy policy footer is not aligned correctly and collides with the edge of this visible area. Again if you happen to click it: not a mobile friendly site nor can you return to the main page. In case you really cant add this all up and you think the solution is to add a back button of sorts — it isnt. You need to build an application. You need a page within the application to tell you about the privacy policy. You need a page in the app to sign up. Once you are logged in - I find you are faced with too many of the warning dialogues with their lovely red background and green text. These however dont go away unless you are able to click another link. The ability to find available parking could be such an great experience on mobile and instead is a terrible compressed mobile site. Lastly (for now) the app icon. Clearly your team has lots of work to do (just start again - dont bother trying to fix this one). So an easy fix would be to upload the original app icon as it follows normal sizing for a graphic. Your oversized logo that touches all of the sides is like raising your flag upside down. It shows inexperience and is a clear indication of what the user should expect within: something your team should be embarrassed of.
Epic update fail Calgary Parking!! How can you update an essential app like this such that its registered on the App store as a whole new app for download rather than a seamless transition? I parked and went to my usual app and it opened with nothing but a random "more" screen - all usual functions gone and no note saying an update was due. Poor.
Crashes a lot. Not impressed that I have to pay an extra dollar. Parking rates are higher in Calgary than New York!!!!
Works fine. Would like to suggest an option to unlock app using fingerprint.
Wow scathing reviews on this one! It works just fine for starting/stopping sessions and seeing my balance. Thats all I need. And contrary to other reviews there is NOT a "$1 fee" per transaction to use the app. It is a $1 minimum parking session when activating the session with your cell phone (whether app, SMS, or call).
This app is supposed to serve a very simple task, so why is it such a mess!?? The UI is dreadful. The original app was simple and worked perfectly. For a service for which we pay $1 per transaction I have no idea how you can produce this garbage. Fix it.
App will say Im in an active session after time expires. Two parking tickets so far. Additionally a dollar fee for using it every time. As if the exorbitant parking rates arent enough.
This is a great app that does everything you would want to do to manage your Calgary parking account. You can register multiple license plate numbers and when you activate a parking session from your phone it will be good for any one of the license plate numbers registered. If you are trying to start two parking sessions for two different vehicles, then you would need to use two phone numbers, but if you have two or three vehicles registered, you do not need to specify which one you parked. Also, now you can add funds from the iPhone app, a great addition!
This app worked fine (other than the fact that my husband and I had to share an account to put 2 cars on) but then tried to use today and only get More...cant start a session. Had to re-download and now totally different and not good at all. Get into 2015 CPA!!
Its rare that a new version is worse than the previous but unfortunately that is the case. The new features are good to have (i.e. access to account info) but not at the expense of usability. The original version was more user friendly and intuitive. The old app was much easier to start sessions as it had settings for favourite parking zones and had a better look and feel. Also, I cant believe that there is a minimum $1 fee to use a cell phone to start a session at a parking meter - ridiculous. This app still needs work and the minimum fee needs to be removed.
I love what they tried to accomplish. Access to account info and ability to add balances in principle is great. Only problem - Terrible execution. Edit: the initial hanging and other issues seem to have been server issues when I first tried the application. Its been good since then.
The older version gave relatively up to date parking info right on the app. Now you have to sign up for RSS feeds. So why do we even need the app. It exactly like their bad website anyhow.
Calgary has highest rates already and they want to charge me a buck extra each time I park...just to use this app! Sorry Ill be asking for my money back. #RIPOFF
So I try to open the app today to find it just takes me to a more info screen. Unlike every other developer in the world the city of Calgary decides to just orphan their app in the store and make a new one. Smart idea guys! And not adding any info to this effect in the abandoned app must have taken a month of meetings to decide on. Hope I didnt get a ticket while downloading and setting up the new one.
