Epic Update Fail!

Epic update fail Calgary Parking!! How can you update an essential app like this such that its registered on the App store as a whole new app for download rather than a seamless transition?
I parked and went to my usual app and it opened with nothing but a random "more" screen - all usual functions gone and no note saying an update was due. Poor.
